The announce with the official prices of Free Mobile was made while I was paying by credit card my monthly Orange bill (this month was a 74€ one), I feel like it was enough and it had to stop. I'm not a Free.fr fanboy nor an Orange one, I had a bunch of issues with both, but I've noticed some huge improvement in the support cases and how they deal and react lately with their DSL offer so I decided to give a try now in their Mobile offer.
The signup was a bit painful, I wasn't able to access anything the first day, and only managed to signup on the morning of the second day (with a few reload of my browser), the process is quite easy if you have your RIO and your freebox logins handy for switching your existing phone number to Free Mobile.
After that, I received from Orange an SMS that confirmed the switch will be made the the 16 of January in between 3PM and 7PM, after that everything went again smoothly I received in time the SIM card with my mobile.free.fr credentials, now only waiting for the day of the switch, I setup the alarm on my iPhone and waited for the switch.
Big day has come, it's 2:55PM, I'm swapping the SIM cards and initiate a shutdown on my iphone, waited 3 minutes and I was now Free!
First thing I wanted to try, is the internet tethering, one of the most handy feature you may need now when you travel. For this you have to setup a few things in the network settings, fill in "free" in all access point sections except for MMS where it's "mmsfree" and regarding MMS, change the MMSC configuration to "http://mms.free.fr"
So far I'm fully satisfied, from the sound quality, up the the features I'm using, and I feel safe since the network if not yet available everywhere is backed up by my previous operator ! :)
